Leask Marine was first established in 1985. Starting out with a single dive team, working on marine construction projects, the company has grown and developed over the years. Leask Marine now operates four teams of divers with an additional workboat charter service, comprising of five multi-purpose vessels as well as the M.V. C-Odyssey, a 26m by 11m Multicat. Leask Marine currently has a 24 person team, 50% of which work full time on renewable projects.
Recent years have seen Leask Marine focus on the expanding field of tidal and wave energy where the company have frequently supported the installation, testing, maintenance and decommissioning of wave energy devices and their supporting infrastructure. Since the renewables began in Orkney in 2003 Leask Marine has been at the forefront in supporting the renewables industry. Project confidentiality is a key consideration for Leask Marine due to the nature of the projects the company is involved with.
The recent addition of the M.V. C-Odyssey, Leask Marine's £3.5 million state of the art flagship, demonstrates the companies continued leadership in this field. The M.V. C-Odyssey is Scotland's first purpose built marine renewables support vessel and is specifically designed for wind, wave and tidal installation projects. It has been designed to provide towage, diver support, anchor handling, all types of sea bed survey as well a variety of other tasks.
Despite only arriving in Orkney in late July, the C-Odyssey has already been involved in major renewables projects.
As well as the dive teams and a six strong dive boat fleet the expertise within Leask Marine allows the company to provide regular consultancy for marine installation projects. Leask Marine has also developed extensive experience in the deployment and recovery of Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) devices.
