Ballast Water Treatment - How Digital Tank Gauging Can Help
Thursday, 7th June 2018
Ballast water is an essential component of ship operations, with larger vessels requiring thousands of cubic metres to maintain stability and manoeuvrability. The recently enforced International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships Ballast Water and Sediments requires that an approved water treatment system is fitted to ships to prevent the spread of harmful aquatic organisms from one region to another and prevent damage to the marine environment by minimising the uptake and subsequent discharge of sediments and organisms. Ships will also now be required to implement a ship specific ballast water management plan and to record and report on all ballast treatment and exchanges.
