Alignment Equipment
Alignment is the process of adjusting the position of rotating shafts within equipment to ensure they are properly aligned. The precise alignment minimises stress, friction, and vibration, leading to smoother operation and greater longevity of equipment. Examples in the marine industry are aligning the propeller shaft with the engine to reduce power loss and increase thrust. A further marine example is aligning the pump impeller with the casing to help improve flow and prevent cavitation.
