Teledyne Marine Expands SeaBat T51 Range with New Portable Variant
Teledyne Marine has expanded its SeaBat T51 multibeam echosounder range with the launch of the SeaBat T51-P, a portable variant designed for hydrographic surveying from small boats and open vessels.
The new system combines the established SeaBat T51 sonar with Teledyne RESON’s portable sonar processor (PSP), featuring an IP-rated, splash-proof design suited to exposed marine environments. The processor also supports 24 V DC power, enabling battery operation in a wider range of survey conditions.
The SeaBat T51-P retains the T51’s 800 kHz sonar performance, offering full-swath coverage of up to 170 degrees for detailed seabed mapping. It also incorporates automated sonar controls, adaptive gates and vertical detection mode.
The SeaBat tracker automatically adjusts sonar settings to support data collection with less manual intervention. Adaptive gates follow changes in the seabed, helping surveyors capture features such as sand waves, depressions and underwater obstacles. Vertical detection mode supports the identification of structures such as quay walls, making the system suitable for harbour surveys.
Pim Kuus, Senior Hydrographer and Product Manager of Instruments and Imaging at Teledyne Marine, said the new variant brings the T51’s established sonar performance to a portable, splash-proof configuration, offering greater flexibility for open-boat operations while helping reduce manual data collection and processing efforts.
Martyn Grange, Vice President Asia Pacific at Teledyne Marine, highlighted demand for flexible hydrographic survey solutions across Asia, particularly in coastal environments where smaller vessels and operational access can influence survey requirements.
The SeaBat T51-P is available to order and for delivery now.
