Film-Ocean Named Scotland’s 3rd Fastest-Growing Renewables Company

Ellon-based ROV contractor sees turnover rise 66.3 per cent and overseas sales almost double.
Film-Ocean, the subsea ROV inspection and intervention contractor, has been ranked the third fastest-growing company in Scotland’s renewables supply chain, according to analysis of the Scottish Renewables 50 published in The Scotsman.
The ranking compares turnover growth across the 50 companies using their latest filed accounts. Film-Ocean’s turnover rose by 66.3 per cent to £28.6m, placing the Aberdeenshire-headquartered company behind only Flotation Energy and Earls Gate Energy Centre among the 10 fastest growers.
The analysis found that the largest businesses in the sector were not the ones growing the quickest. The 10 fastest-growing companies added almost £290m of turnover between them, a combined rise of 29 per cent.
International work was a significant driver of Film-Ocean’s performance. The company’s overseas sales almost doubled over the period, rising from £9.7m to £18.2m, placing it 12th among the 50 companies for exports. Only 18 of the 50 reported any export sales.
Renewables have been a growing part of that work. More recently, Film-Ocean’s ROV teams have supported offshore wind projects across Europe and Asia, including floating wind developments off Portugal and in the North Sea, and wind farms in Taiwan. The scope of work has included hook-up and installation support for floating turbine units, UXO operations and export cable pull-in.
The momentum is continuing, with Film-Ocean’s newest work-class vehicle bound for a long-term project in Angola, adding to a full fleet that gives clients range and capacity across a broad spectrum of subsea operations, from heavy construction through to inspection and light intervention.
