Amer Shipping Expands CDS 110 Fleet
Amer Shipping has ordered two further CDS Dry Cargo 110 vessels from Concordia Damen, bringing the total number of vessels in the series to six.
The first newbuild, to be named AM Lianova, will operate for Stream Shipping, the joint venture between Amer Shipping and German cooperative MSG eG. Inland skippers Bram and Lilian Timmer, currently operating the AM Explorer, will become co-owners of the AM Lianova through Stream Shipping.
The second vessel, which has yet to be named, will join Amer Shipping’s own fleet. Deliveries are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027 and second quarter of 2028.
Stream Shipping currently operates the AM Voyager and AM Explorer, with the AM Lianova becoming the third vessel in its fleet. The company also holds an option on a fourth vessel.
Chris Kornet, Managing Director at Concordia Damen, said the shipyard was pleased to continue its relationship with Amer Shipping and to work with the Timmer family on the new project.
Proven Design for Efficient Inland Shipping
The new vessels will be based on Concordia Damen’s CDS 110 design, measuring 110 metres by 11.45 metres. The design combines a shallow draught with a low air draught, allowing the vessels to operate efficiently on inland waterways.
At a draught of 2.50 metres, the vessels can pass beneath bridges with 4.25 metres of clearance. According to Amer Shipping, the design can carry up to 200 tonnes more cargo at the same draught than a comparable 110-metre vessel, while the hull’s low resistance helps reduce fuel consumption.
The vessels will be built from Concordia Damen’s stock-building programme, with outfitting carried out at Ruijtenberg Shipyard, which is owned by the Buijks family.
Experience gained from previous vessels in the series will be incorporated into the latest newbuilds. One key feature is the shaft generator, which charges the battery pack while the vessel is sailing. This means the generator does not need to operate during loading and unloading, reducing both emissions and noise.
Peter Buijks, Managing Director of Amer Shipping, said the latest order reflects the performance of the existing Stream Shipping vessels and the company’s focus on developing more efficient inland shipping solutions.
The AM Lianova partnership also provides Bram and Lilian Timmer with a stake in a modern vessel, supported by chartering, technical services and the family-owned shipyard.
Amer Shipping says the continued development of the CDS 110 series forms part of its wider aim to modernise the Dutch dry cargo fleet and improve efficiency through new vessel technology and long-term partnerships.
