Hydroscand UK, specialists in Marine Hydraulics, Awarded UK’s Best Workplaces™ Recognition!
Wednesday, 20th March 2024
On 14 March, Great Place to Work® held their annual Best Workplaces Awards ceremony in London. We are proud to share that we were recognised as one of 2024 UK’s Best Workplaces™ in the medium category. Listening to Our Teams
In 2022, Hydroscand Group, specialists in marine hydraulic hose and hydraulic fittings, conducted its first employee satisfaction survey, which was run by Great Place to Work®.
We wanted to find out what our team members thought about Hydroscand, what it is like working here and how we could best support them, as they support our customers.
Following that survey, we were thrilled to receive certification as a Great Place to Work. So much of what was said by our teams was positive. There were a few ideas for improvement as well and, where possible, have worked on those points over the past year.
In 2023, thanks to our employees taking part and making their thoughts known, the feedback was even better, and our trust index was reported at 88% favourable. What Sets Us Apart

Marine Hydraulics
Marine hydraulics is a crucial aspect of ship systems, focusing on the use of hydraulic power to control various functions and mechanisms on vessels.
Hydraulic systems utilise fluids to transmit power and operate machinery, offering advantages such as high power density, precise control, and reliability in harsh marine environments.
These systems are commonly employed in steering systems, hatch covers, cranes, winches, and propulsion systems, among others. The principles of marine hydraulics involve the generation, transmission, control, and distribution of hydraulic power to perform specific tasks efficiently.
Proper maintenance and monitoring of hydraulic systems are essential to ensure optimal performance and prevent failures that could compromise the safety and operation of marine vessels.
With advancements in technology, modern marine hydraulics continue to evolve, offering improved efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability in maritime operations.
Positive Work Environment
At Hydroscand, we believe that creating a positive and supportive work environment is paramount to our success.
We prioritise employee development through ongoing personal development discussions, regular training for all roles, and creating an open and honest environment.
We have also focused a great deal on leadership development, to ensure that our managers are able to support and guide the teams effectively.
We have a real focus on safety and wellbeing, including offering training for managers on mental health awareness and having an Employee Assistance Programme available to everyone.
Supporting Local Activities
As well as supporting our team members we also do what we can for the communities we work in. In 2023, we asked our teams what they would like to do in terms of charitable donations or sponsoring local initiatives. Based on their feedback we supported two grassroots football clubs.
We also sponsored our team members who took on challenges for charity and we organised a Macmillan Coffee Morning, which raised £500. We also support a junior school near our office in Nottingham as often as possible and we collected books for the school Hydroscand Group sponsors in South Africa.
It is important to get involved in these initiatives because it creates a sense of pride in the team and helps us connect with local communities
