Marine Plant Hire Launches ‘Tom Scruby’ Workboat
Tuesday, 23rd June 2026
Marine Plant Hire has officially welcomed the latest addition to its growing fleet, a Damen 2611 Multicat workboat, during a naming ceremony held in Southampton. The vessel, now named Tom Scruby, was formally introduced into service in the presence of clients, industry partners, colleagues and friends from across the maritime sector.
The Damen 2611 Multicat is widely recognised for its versatility, reliability and capability to support a diverse range of marine operations. The investment reflects Marine Plant Hire’s ongoing commitment to expanding its operational capacity and enhancing the support it provides to clients undertaking increasingly complex projects throughout the UK and internationally.
While the arrival of the new vessel represents a significant milestone for the business, the naming ceremony also served as an opportunity to recognise the outstanding contribution of Tom Scruby, a longstanding adviser, supporter and friend of Marine Plant Hire and the wider Ancora Group.
Over many years, Tom has provided invaluable guidance, shared extensive industry expertise and played an influential role in supporting the growth and development of several businesses within the Group. He is widely respected for his integrity, humility and dedication to helping others—qualities that have earned him admiration both within the organisation and across the wider industry.
The decision to name the vessel in his honour reflects the lasting impact he has made on the business and the people within it. Marine Plant Hire and the Ancora Group were proud to recognise his contribution through this enduring tribute.
The Tom Scruby now joins the Marine Plant Hire fleet and will support a wide range of marine construction, civil engineering, offshore and infrastructure projects. The vessel further strengthens the company’s ability to deliver specialist marine services while supporting future growth across both UK and international markets.
