Rear Admiral Doull CBE Visit – Somers Forge 11th January

Somers Forge, a leading open die forge and heavy machine shop of precision components for the defence industry, had the honour of hosting Rear Admiral Doull CBE.
The visit followed on from Somers Forge being awarded a prestigious award for Collaboration & Diligence by the Dreadnought Alliance Supply Forum. This remarkable achievement is particularly noteworthy for a family-run business based in Halesowen, showcasing their ability to compete with big engineering companies.
During the site visit, Rear Admiral Doull had the opportunity to witness first-hand the advanced forging processes, with a 20 tonne shaft being forged by a mammoth 4,00 tonne press. During the guided tour of the facilities, the Admiral observed the meticulous craftsmanship and quality control measures that are involved in producing components that are essential for the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet.
