PSM again selected as Instrument Supplier for Offshore Wind Turbine Platforms

Tuesday, 30th April 2019

PSM Instrumentation are part of an innovative floating wind platform project which allows the exploitation of wind potential at sea in depths of more than 40 metres. The innovation focus of the project is the conception of a floating foundation, based on the experiences from the oil and gas industry, which will support wind turbines in offshore applications.

The floating foundation is semi-submersible and anchored to the seabed. It is built entirely onshore, including the installation of the turbine, thus avoiding the use of scarce marine resources.

PSM were selected as the instrument supplier for the initial floating wind platform project in Portugal, which was the first offshore wind turbine in open Atlantic waters.  Due to the success of this project, they were asked to supply instrumentation for the next phase which covers a total of seven wind platforms – one in Spain, two in Portugal, and four in France.

As part of their role in the project, they have supplied marine certified instrumentation including submersible switches to monitor water levels and ingress for flood detection, continuous level monitoring transmitters and pressure transmitters for various process pressures. They already have orders in place for the 3 off 8 MW platforms and expect to see the same for the 4 off 6 MW platforms as this phase of the project progresses.

These two projects will demonstrate the low risk profile and economic competitiveness of the technology, preparing the way for future commercial size floating offshore marine wind farms.

Green Marine come to the aid of stricken fishing vessel

Tuesday, 30th April 2019

2 Hours after being contacted on Wednesday evening, Green Marine were departing Stromness to aid the Danish fishing vessel Karbak, a 35m trawler which had lost all means of propulsion.

Green Marine quickly produced procedures, taking consideration of the poor weather conditions (Hs >3.5m) and how best to interface our towing equipment with the vessel.

In approximately 18 hours from the call, the Green Isle (Green Marine’s multicat) had transited 152nm to reach the Karbak 60nm off Shetland and safely connected a towline.  In the following 7 hours, the Karbak was safely towed and brought alongside the quay in Lerwick and the Green Isle returned to Orkney.

The master of the vessel was grateful for the rapid response time and had this to say:
“We were impressed with how quickly Green Marine organised a team and vessel to come and assist us in our time of need. They were constantly professional from start to finish and resolved a bad situation.”

There was also cause for celebration last week as Green Marine picked up the award for “Best Marine Operator Supporting or Supplying Offshore Renewables” at the Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Awards in Inverness on Thursday.

Jason Schofield, Managing Director of Green Marine said:

“For Green Marine to have won the prestigious award for Best Marine Operator is testament to the dedication and hard work of the onshore and offshore team who provide a world class service to all of our clients. We are forward thinking, innovative and ambitious, with a long-term strategy of growth in the renewable energy sector.”

Worldwide Official Global Distributor for Hydro-Diesel

Monday, 29th April 2019

It was announced during an April press release by Team Britannia, Maktec Marine are the official global sales for the world beating fuel Hydro-Diesel.

This important agreement solidifies a relationship started in 2017 and helps secure jobs in the UK marine industry.

Head of Team Britannia, ocean racing legend, Dr Alan Priddy commented: “This is an exciting day for everyone including our amazing crew and commercial partners and our worldwide official distributor Maktec Marine. The marine engine specialists who provide a dedicated sales team for the fuel and ongoing advice from their years of experience in this sector.

“Today we can announce that following extensive real-world testing of a number of emulsion variants, we have selected Clean Fuels Hydro-Diesel to power our boats two Fiat Power Train (FPT) engines.”

The benefits of emulsification have been well known for more than 80 years, as WiDE “Water in Diesel" cuts PM and other gases by improving atomization of the hydrocarbon molecules making the whole combustion process more efficient.

Other benefits include a lower engine temperature and a reduction of the fuel consumed per mile. We knew that emulsified diesel had the potential to make a big and immediate contribution to the reduction of harmful emissions such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) and alongside the new 2020 compliant diesel we offer a solution for existing emissions problems.

Mark Cornforth Maktec's Technical Director and known engine specialist added: “We are delighted to be supporting Clean Fuel and Team Britannia in highlighting the cost savings and benefits of Hydro-Diesel to vessel owners and managers" and see interest and sales of the fuel increasing considerably over the next six months especially now the UK government acceptances the views of the climate change lobbyists.

We have now reached an exciting turning point in the future of Hydro-Diesel and its positive impact on our environment.

Wardle Marine’s most popular product, Jet Ski ports

Tuesday, 16th April 2019

Hands up who hasn’t been thinking about getting in or whizzing around on the water with all this lovely weather recently?

One of Wardle Marine’s most popular products is their group of Jet Ski ports. The Jetport, Jetport Plus and Jetport Max.

As featured within our commercial marine directory, the Jetport is the original model, is 386cm length and 147cm width, and has a lifting capacity of 1200kg. The Jetport has fixed wheels and rollers with a tapered entrance for ease of dock and launch.

The Jetport Plus has a lifting capacity of 1340kg, though otherwise, it has the same dimensions as the Jetport, but with the added quality of adjustable wheels enabling you to fit it according to your specific jet ski model. It’s V-shaped base makes it suitable for different jetskis to the Jetport, which has a flatter base. This model was also designed to give better rigidity and distribution of load.

The Jetport Max is a step up from the Jetport Plus. It’s a wider model, at 196cm, allowing extra access and walking space. It also holds corrosion-free rollers and with UV stabilisers built-in, it is virtually maintenance-free. This is our top of the range model.

All Jetports can connect to each other, as well as the Rotodock platforms and (with a connection bracket) can also attach to modular cubes. Installation options are varied, we can provide piling and anchoring. They can also be installed on existing piling or a floating dock.

Just call us with your requirements and we will do all we can to create a suitable dock for your jetski in it’s current situation.

We are proud to be the distributors of such innovative, durable and robust products. If you wish to become a regional retailer of the PMS product range for Wardle Marine Services, please give us a call to discuss the details on 01420 86229.
