Jenkins Marine Transports Princess Superyacht Mould

Wednesday, 27th November 2024

 Princess Superyacht Mould

Jenkins Marine was commissioned to transport a large Super Yacht mould from Lee-on-Solent near Southampton to the Princess Yacht facility in Plymouth. Princess Yachts is a globally renowned luxury motor yacht manufacturer.

This was a highly complex operation. The 30m x 11m pontoon barge JML30 was towed to Southampton to coincide with the high tide using the powerful multicat Buffalo and twin screw tugboat Polmear.

Once at the designated site, the Super Yacht mould was loaded onto the pontoon barge from its road transport by a large, shore-based giant hydraulic lifting crane. The crane itself required pre-planned road closures to reach the site and wind speeds were monitored so as not to exceed a lower safety limit for the crane’s safe operation due to its extended operating height.

The versatile multicat Buffalo was chosen for transport due to its shallow draft, spud legs to hold position, and large cargo deck. It was able to position the pontoon barge JML30 close to the beach, directly in front of the crane at the optimum tidal moment. JML30 has a minimal draft of just 40cm, and buffalo just 120cm at the bow, meaning both vessels are ideally suited for getting very close to the shore for this type of operation.

The crane lifted the 28-ton mould carefully onto the pontoon, where it was quickly de-rigged and safely sea-fastened by the Jenkins Marine team. Once clear of the shore, the tugboat Polmear refastened to the barge and led the way for the tow along the south coast to Plymouth.

This was a multifaceted operation which was successfully completed within a single day. The many different parties involved worked together to achieve a smooth and successful operation.

Atlas Winch (Scotland) Announces Acquisition of Sister Company

Thursday, 7th November 2024

Scottish based winch specialist Atlas Winch & Hoist Services Limited has announced the acquisition of its sister company Atlas Winch & Hoist Services (Southern) Ltd located in Essex.

History

Denis Lavery started the Atlas business in Scotland in the 90’s and was joined by his brother Anton Lavery in 2002 with the objective of growing the business and establishing Atlas with a genuine presence in the south of the country.

The brothers had worked together previously in the industry, each having successful careers within NIM Winches and LGH Group and the collaboration proved to be a lucrative one.

Over the past 22 years the Southern business has grown from strength to strength, investing heavily in plant, equipment and facilities at it’s premises near Great Dunmow, Essex.

The business operates across a range of sectors including construction, renewables, marine and oil & gas but it is the utility sector where Atlas has established itself as the go-to provider for marine winches, cable and pipe pulling winches, cable drum trailers and cable drum handling solutions, now possessing more specialist capability than any other provider in the UK.

Best solution for future growth and development

Anton Lavery and his wife Louise will begin scaling back their day-to-day involvement in the business over the coming months and Anton will retain some involvement at the board level for both businesses going forward.

Anton said “I am very proud of what we have achieved and it also seems fitting that ownership of Atlas Southern now passes back to Denis and to his son Conor and I will always be grateful to Denis for giving me the opportunity some 22 years ago.

Under their guidance, I am confident Atlas will continue to grow and develop and of all the possible scenarios this one is without question what is best for the business, our staff and our customers and of course ensures the business remains within the Lavery family for many years to come.”

Denis Lavery also commented “Myself & Conor are delighted to finally get the deal with Anton & Louise across the line, we all agree it is the best outcome for the business and all its employees.

It cements the Atlas Group as one of the leading winch rental and supply companies in the industry and reinforces our expertise and service capabilities across all sectors. We will continue to provide the top quality equipment and service which both businesses have been successfully built on. We look forward to continuing to grow Atlas and working with new and existing clients.

Our business has been built on customer service, responding quickly with expert advice to provide the best and most appropriate equipment solutions within an agreed timeframe and at realistic costs. This approach will continue, it underpins everything we do and more than ever we are the ‘go to winch experts’.

Smooth Transition

We want to reassure all of our valued customers that this transition will have no impact on your daily interactions with Atlas Southern or the high level of service you’ve come to know and trust.
