‘Red Kestrel’ NEW freight-only Isle of Wight Ferry

The ‘float-off’ of the new freight-only Isle of Wight RoRo ferry.

At 74m in length, the vessel will provide 265 lane metres of roll-on/roll-off freight capacity and will carry up to 12 passengers. The ship was designed for freight traffic and constructed specifically to provide additional year-round freight capacity for Red Funnel’s Southampton-East Cowes route.

The vessel named ‘Red Kestrel’ entered service with Red Funnel on 24th May 2019.

LK Valves & Controls supplied the quick closing valve system comprising of a hydraulic control station cabinet, 2 x two handle hydraulic release stations without cabinet and the quick closing valves, all within 3 weeks of receiving the order.

Amongst the other valves supplied where the new design LK storm valves and new Winel aluminium tank vent check valves.

Senior management appointments at Nucore Group as the business goes from strength-to-strength

Jenkins Marine Hopper Barge â€˜Nabâ€™ on the slipway at Manor Marine

Jenkins Marine has contracted Manor Marine to provide slipway, repair and maintenance services for the Split Hopper Barge, ‘Nab’. The 44.10 metre dredging vessel will be on the slipway in Portland, Dorset for 9 weeks to undergo essential works.

Manor Marine has removed two 2.7 tonne hydraulic rams from ‘Nab’ for servicing and are currently providing welding services for repairs on the vessel, with Jenkins Marine utilising the slipway for painting and hull repair works; in 2018 Manor Marine completed a similar scope of work on her sister vessel, ‘Needles’.

Collett & Sons: Clocaenog Wind Farm Completed!

The final component deliveries to Clocaenog Wind Farm have been completed!

With the first of the deliveries taking place at the beginning of January, for the past six months Collett & Sons Ltd have been travelling the 70 mile route from Ellesmere Port to Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm, steadily delivering the turbine components to the North Wales site.

Collett have made the final journey from the port to the development site, delivering the final tower sections to complete the project.

Through the snow of January, the storms of February and the record breaking heat of July, Collett methodically delivered each of the 270 components. With a total of 121 abnormal load convoys and 15 self-escorted convoys, Collett covered a staggering 16,929 miles with a total of 12,420 Tonnes!

Construction is now well underway of the 27 V105 Vestas turbines which will form Innogy Renewable UK’s North Wales site. Once operational Clocaenog Forest will have an installed capacity of 96 megawatts, and will generate enough renewable energy for the equivalent domestic needs of up to 63,800 average households per year.

Dana invest in winch stock for Northern European market

Responding to market demands, Dana have invested significantly in Brevini® hoisting winches, making a range of products available for fast delivery to customers in the UK and Northern Europe.

Brevini® hoisting winches available from stock now include 10 design variants, with hoisting capacities from 0.4 to 6.0 tonne. All stock winches are marinized, with C5MH paint and marine seals as standard.

Brimmond Group and Rigrun Europe hosts their 1st Offshore Asset Demo Day

Brimmond Group and Rigrun Europe greeted over 125 oil and gas professionals and suppliers to their Kintore facilities on Thursday 27 June. The Offshore Asset Demo Day is a vital element of the company's strategy to showcase to the offshore sector the breadth of products and services offered by both companies.
Preffered Marine Cranes has been integrated into Brimmond Group, streamlining the marine crane offering through one company, providing customers with a one-stop-shop solution for maritime cranes.

Brimmond Group has invested a six-figure sum to expands its rental fleet, and in the first half of 2019, it has added several new products to its offshore rental fleet including 107kW Diesel HPUs, 57kW Diesel HPUs, 45kW Zone 1 Electric HPUs and 200kW Zone 2 Diesel HPUs. The investment also included further cranes, shakers, winches and lifting accessories.

2019 has been an extremely positive year for Brimmond Group, in April Brimmond had a record month in rental, and with no signs of this slowing down with various key rental projects kicking off over the next few months. In addition to this the Engineering and Manufacture division saw a seven-figure revenue in the first 4 months of this year. The new contracts see Brimmond Group expanding its global reach with equipment going to projects in Mozambique, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Middle East, Spain, Russia and Ghana.

Clipper vessel to undertake world tour promotion of UN Sustainable Development Goals

On 18th July, a press conference was held at the Willemsoord historic harbour in Den Helder. The subject of the meeting was the mid-life maintenance programme of the Clipper Stad Amsterdam, scheduled to take place in Den Helder in late 2019 and early 2020.

During the maintenance programme, Damen Shipyards Den Helder will carry out a scope of work in the former naval dockyard Willemsoord that will increase the efficiency and sustainability of the Damen-built vessel, preparing her for a round the world voyage she will undertake in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The work that Damen will carry out on the Stad Amsterdamincludes replacement of her main engines and diesel generators for equipment with improved levels of efficiency. They will also exchange her sewage installation for a new one that extracts sewage residue, purifying the water for clean, safe disposal.

With this work, the Stad Amsterdam, already boasting green credentials, will become the perfect ambassador for her next mission; a two-year round the world voyage, the SDG World Tour, to promote the seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals. The goals, adopted by all UN member states, are a call for action by all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the environment. They represent a plan to build a better world for people and the planet by 2030.

During the voyage, the vessel will make seventeen stops, beginning in Amsterdam and finishing in New York. At each of the stops, the mission will focus on one of the seventeen goals, reaching in total 500 million people with the message of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Damen will carry out the work on the vessel at the Willemsoord in the centre of Den Helder. This historic location is over 200 years old and with direct access to the sea, is the ideal location for a programme of works on such a vessel.

Den Helder is well used to welcoming tall ships – having hosted Sail Den Helder five times in the past with a sixth edition planned for 2023. Stad Amsterdam will arrive in the city in time for the Traditional Ship Festival and will be visible to the public during her 5-month visit.

Damen Shipyards Den Helder managing director Jelle Loosman said, “We are delighted to be welcoming the Stad Amsterdamback to Damen for this project. We are excited to be undertaking the work at the Willemsoord – we have extensive experience of undertaking work on location and the historic harbour is the perfect setting for a vessel such as the Stad Amsterdam.

TheStad Amsterdanwas delivered by Damen in 2000. She combines the best construction methods of the past with those of the present, with a classic look and feel. The vessel is 76 metres in length and features 31 sails with a total area of 2,200 m2. She sails under the Dutch flag and is available for business events, luxury cruises and adventurous sailing trips.

Moby names Damen ASD Tug 2813 Vincenzino O. in Cagliari

On 18 July 2019, Moby held a naming ceremony for their new Damen ASD Tug 2813, Vincenzino O. in Cagliari as part of the company’s plans to upgrade its fleet.

Moby’s CEO Achille Onorato says: “We are very proud to welcome this new tug to our fleet. The vessel, which carries the name of my son, Vincenzino O., introduces the sixth generation of our family to the sea and is a clear demonstration of our commitment to the community of Sardinia. We have enjoyed an excellent cooperation with Damen in the construction of this vessel and are confident in their reputation for the delivery of high quality vessels.”

The ASD Tug 2813 is part of Damen’s next generation of tugs. This series offers a range of new tug designs. The next generation tugs aim at ensuring maximum safety, reliability, sustainability and efficiency. The vessels feature innovative technologies ranging from safety glass to connectivity and from compliance with 2020 stability regulations to IMO Tier III readiness.

The ASD Tug 2813 delivers approximately 85 tonnes bollard pull and offers MLC compliant accommodation and an aft deck area of about 80m2, providing both extended crew capacity and optimal towage capabilities fore and aft.

Though built to a proven, standardised design, Vincenzino O.is outfitted with a number of options in order to tailor her to Moby’s requirements. This includes FiFi1, oil recovery notation, salvage notation and a number of features to facilitate salvage operations. Amongst these are a stern roller, independent double drum aft winch and a crane aft.

The vessel also features remote monitoring capabilities enabling onshore viewing of such things as performance and fuel consumption, leading to optimised, efficient operations.

62m Footbridge Heads to Worcester

Consisting of six separate loads, Collett have completed delivery of Battenhall Bridleway to the West Midlands.
Collecting from the manufacturing facility in Northallerton, each of the three deck sections, arch section and two arch ends required transport solutions, firstly to Sheffield for finishing before final delivery to site. The 16m, 21m and 25.5m long deck sections were all loaded directly to 4-axle extendable trailers and transported from site. The longest component, the 27m arch section would require a different solution. Due to the size of the arch section and the positioning within the manufacturing facility, the Collett Team employed SPT operations to extract the structure from its position within the workshop before onward transport operations could take place.

Over a two-week period, each of the components travelled under South Yorkshire Police and private escort to the Worcester construction site. The heaviest of the components, the 31 Tonne deck section, was the first to make the journey to site. Having utilised Collett’s Heavy Lift Storage facility throughout the project, the deck section departed from Goole at 7pm to avoid causing any unnecessary disruption to other road users. From here the cargo overnighted at the M1 Junction 28 abnormal loads bay for onward transport the following day.

Having undertaken meticulous swept path analysis reports, all enabling works for the movement and any required street furniture removals on the designated route, Collett safely and successfully delivered the bridge sections to their Worcester destination.

With two loads delivering directly from Goole, each of the other four completed the 120-mile route from Sheffield to the Worcester construction site. In line with the required assembly programme, each of the cargoes were positioned to a specific trailer orientation and delivered to a strict construction schedule.

Once on site, each of the bridge sections would be welded together to form a 170 Tonne footbridge spanning 62m which will be lifted in to position above the carriageway by 1,250 Tonne crane.
