DWTEK’s ROV I90+ Completes Wind Turbine Operation in the Taiwan Strait

Tuesday, 27th August 2024

DWTEK Completed the Maintenance Operation of One-Third of Wind Turbines in the Taiwan Strait in July

DWTEK‘s ROV I90+, equipped with a cutting-edge water jet tool, successfully completed the maintenance operation of 80 wind turbines, with a total power capacity of over 600 MW, located in western Taiwan in July.

The company’s latest achievement includes breaking its record, with each turbine now capable of cleaning a 10m² section within one hour.

Enhanced new water jet tool

DWTEK’s ROV I90+, enhanced with a new water jet tool provided by a local Taiwan supplier, efficiently removed marine growth from offshore wind turbines. The company is known for having a strong local supplier chain to fulfill clients’ diverse needs. For instance, in this case, DWTEK’s water jet partner worked closely with them to ensure success.

The task was executed with precision by DWTEK’s highly trained ROV pilot team, even under the challenging conditions of the Taiwan Strait. Impressively, the entire maintenance scope can be done within one hour.

This success strengthens the company’s confidence in tackling large-scale offshore wind farm cleaning and other significant underwater construction projects in the future.

The Taiwan Strait, with its total wind farm installation capacity reaching 29GW and 270 operating wind turbines, is a prime location for offshore wind energy. As Taiwan’s offshore wind farms continue to grow, more local companies like DWTEK must be needed to tackle and support OWF tasks.

DWTEK

DWTEK Co., Ltd., founded in 2008, specializes in underwater technology including underwater drones, underwater connectors, and various subsea components. Furthermore, DWTEK provides comprehensive support to the international offshore industry with ROV services, subsea inspections, IRM, and vessel chartering.

Maritime Partner Delivers Electric Passenger Boat

Tuesday, 20th August 2024

Maritime Partner AS in Alesund has recently delivered an 18m electric passenger boat – catamaran to Moskenes Shipping. The boat, an ALUSAFE CAT 18 EL, has an all-electric propulsion system and a capacity for 75 passengers.

Electric catamaran

This is an important delivery for Maritime Partner, and a milestone since it is the first all-electric catamaran we are building, says Henrik Myklebust, VP Sales at Maritime Partner. ABB has delivered the complete propulsion system including the electric motors and batteries.

Two air-cooled electric motors and frequency converters and a battery capacity of total 524 kWt gives the electric passenger boat a speed of 12 knots. Running on electric operation, with an efficient hull design and built using aluminum in the construction, the boat is as “green” as it gets with today’s knowledge and technology.

Aluminum is an environmentally friendly alternative that, when recycled, requires very little energy to be resurrected as a full-fledged material for new applications.

Shipping company

Moskenes Shipping is a local shipping company that operates passenger transport and charters in and around Reine in Lofoten. The boat will be used for the company’s route in the Reinefjord, a route which they have operated for 26 years. From 2023, a new ten-year contract was entered into with Nordland County Municipality for the operation of the boat route from Reine and the places Rostad, Kirkefjord and Vinstad. In addition to permanent residents, the route handles a large number of tourists each year from Reine.

‘The green islands’

The boat is part of the project “the green islands”, where the goal is zero emissions on land and sea. Lofoten “the green islands” is a private-public partnership for green growth and conversion to the low-emission Lofoten society. Together with residents, businesses and the public sector, work is being done to ensure that the future of Lofoten is renewable, attractive, sustainable, viable and contributes to achieving the UN’s climate goals.

Design and arrangement

The boat is a new model designed by Engineer Ola Lilloe-Olsen. Maritime Partner has been responsible for the detailed design, engineering and construction.

In order for all passenger facilities to be available for everyone, the boat has been arranged in line with requirements for universal design. The main salon has access from both the fore and aft decks.

The lounge has seating for 75 pax and handicap/wheelchair space in accordance with the regulations. Several seats are arranged with tables, which makes the boat suitable for both sightseeing and transporting tourists.

There are large window surfaces that contribute to a bright and light interior with a good view for everyone on board. The top deck is accessed for passengers from the aft deck, where a wheelchair lift is also installed.

In addition, the boat has plenty of space for luggage and a dog cage on the aft deck.

The boat is built in accordance with the Norwegian Maritime Directorate’s rules for passenger ships and navigation area 4. This includes both design, safety equipment and electronics with navigation and communication.

Maritime Partner

Maritime Partner AS sells and builds fast boats of its own design. Maritime Partner has customers worldwide and has surpassed 2,300 delivered boats. Boat types range from offshore rescue boats, workboats, patrol boats, tourist boats, and other fast boats under the brand names Alusafe, Seabear/Sjøbjørn, and Weedo.

New trade show ready to showcase advances in water jetting

Monday, 5th August 2024

The first Water Jetting Association Trade Show taking place in September will provide a strong focus on key issues in the water blasting industry, including health and safety, training and innovations like robotic systems.

The first water jetting exhibition of its kind held by the WJA takes place at the StoneX Stadium, North West London, on Thursday 12th September 2024.

The free event will have a strong international flavour with businesses from across Europe joining British exhibitors to showcase the latest technologies and applications.

WJA experts and exhibitors will also be giving talks during the one-day event, which follows the WJA annual general meeting being held on Wednesday 11th of September.

Visitors already booked to attend the event come from industrial sectors that rely on water jetting applications, including drainage and water utilities, industrial cleaning, construction, marine engineering and petrochemicals processing.

WJA Director Leanne Smith said: “We’re very pleased to have attracted such an exciting range of exhibitors to WJA Trade Show 2024.

“We’ve made it a free event because we want as many people from across the sectors that use water jetting to join us in shaping the future of our industry.”

The venue, the home of Saracens Rugby Club, is easy to reach, being located less than 10 minutes from the end of the M1 just off the North Circular Road, and there is free on-site parking for all visitors.

High-pressure water blasting contractors, equipment manufacturers, hire specialists, PPE suppliers, and training providers are among the wide range of exhibitors preparing to put on the water jetting show of the year.

High Pressure Water Blasting

WJA Trade Show 2024 organiser Lee O’Callaghan said: “There will be a large external display area where exhibitors will be presenting their machines, including pumps, jetting units and vacuming units, representing cutting-edge technology in our industry.

“Visitors to the WJA Trade Show will be able to meet and network with leading experts and find out about new developments, for example in water jetting robotics, high-pressure water jetting, operative safety, and water jetting sustainability.

“A strong theme will be health and safety, as it always is with high-pressure water blasting, so health and safety professionals who need to know more about safe application of WJ techniques should definitely attend.”

Information about key developments in WJA support for the water WJ industry, including updates to the Red Code of Practice for drain and sewer jetting, and the launch, in 2024, of the new Pressure Washer Code of Practice, known as the Purple Code, will also be available.

Founded in 1980, the WJA is one of the world’s leading WJ trade associations. Members include contractors, equipment manufacturers, equipment suppliers and hire specialists, training providers, and water jetting service users.

The WJA also has a City & Guilds accredited water jetting training programme delivered by WJA approved training providers and instructors in the UK and across the world.
