Rotec Hydraulics Ltd is celebrating after being named finalists in two categories at the Somerset Business Awards 2023.

The well-respected provider of hydraulics, pneumatics and marine electrical systems is still in the running for both the ‘Large Business of the Year’ and ‘Somerset Manufacturer and Producer’ Award categories.

Rotec’s business ethos and their proven ability to thrive despite challenges including the pandemic and the volatility of the marketplace, has earned them a place at the grand final in the ‘Large Business of the Year’ award category.

Named finalist for the ‘Somerset Manufacturer and Producer of the year’ category at this years’ awards is a testament to Rotec’s innovative use of technology and ability to produce bespoke solutions for their clients, who year on year provide outstanding customer feedback. Rotec is proud to have a team with diverse skill sets and capabilities including specialist design engineers, allowing them to be able to deliver on such challenging projects.

This year is the 18th anniversary of the awards, which are organised by Somerset Chamber of Commerce. The grand final will be hosted by BBC Somerset presenter and journalist Claire Carter at the Winter Gardens Pavilion, in Weston-super-Mare, on 24th March 2023.

Assembly Points
In the event of an emergency such as a fire, the shelter can be used as a vital assembly point for personnel to gather. HAUG Sauer Kompressoren appoints Bruno Garcia as new CEO

Kiel/St. Gallen, February 23, 2023. Swiss manufacturer HAUG Sauer Kompressoren AG appointed Bruno Garcia as its new CEO. He will take over the sole management by the 1st of march 2023. Garcia has already been member of the management, that was lead for many years by now leaving CEO Beat Frefel. The company, which is part of the Sauer Compressors Group, also presented Emanuel Scheffknecht as new sales director.

New Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bruno Garcia (40) contributes a lot of experience in international management and an excellent know-how of the compressors industry. The studied engineer worked in the management of HAUG Sauer Kompressoren most recently.

n the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) he was responsible for product development, order processing, production, customer service, finances, and IT. Beat Frefel (55), who managed the compressor manufacturer for 22 years, leaves the company due to personal reasons.

New sales director

Emanuel Scheffknecht (43) will take over the position of sales director by 1st of march 2023 at HAUG Sauer Kompressoren. The economist, who holds a doctoral degree, worked in leading positions for internationally operating manufacturers of medical devices and was the managing director of a trading company.

Ocean Business Announces Exhibitor List For 2023 Show

With just two months to go until Ocean Business 2023, more details can be revealed about the line-up of exhibitors at the global technology and science exhibition for marine industries.

More than 300 world leading manufacturers and service providers shaping the future of ocean science and technology have booked space at the sold-out show, which runs from April 18-20 at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton.

This year’s exhibition, covering two halls and including a full programme of training and demonstrations on the dockside, on board vessels and in the classroom, promises to attract record crowds from around the world.

Visitors will be able to see the latest developments in transformational ocean technology, from cutting edge ROVs, to next generation sensors, to advances in automation.

Among the highlights, Framework Robotics is launching its new remotely operated vehicle, BUDDY, which can be adjusted to suit any mission, from exploration to surveying, inspection and more.

Leading UK scientific technology company ANB Sensors will present its state-of-the-art pH sensors, which operate to depths of 1,250m in fresh or saltwater environments, are virtually maintenance-free and allow for long-term remote monitoring.

Subsea cable specialist Novacavi, meanwhile, will provide updates on its range of solutions designed to meet the most complex needs of marine and underwater technology – expertise that has seen the company support projects from upgrading the infrastructure of the European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and Water Column Observatory, to supplying the INGV National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology with cables deployed at 4,000m to monitor the sea.

UK company RoboSys Automation, which uses artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to provide scalable levels of autonomy, will introduce its smart shipping software, Voyager AI, that can transform a new or existing vessel into a fully autonomous USV.

Also taking a stand at Ocean Business is Terradepth, the company spearheading seafloor hydrographic and geophysical survey solutions through unique autonomous underwater vehicle technology. North Field Production Sustainability in Qatar

In 2022, Wozair were approached to assist on a gas project for North Field Production Sustainability (NFPS) in Qatar. This is part of a complete HVAC supply scope Wozair is providing for the project through main contractor Saipem. Working alongside Thermoplant Ltd, Wozair were able to provide the full solution of AHU’s and refrigeration units.

The 24 units that Wozair is currently manufacturing at the UK facility are Air Handling Units, which are being supplied for the 12 platforms Local Equipment Room (LER) building.

Each unit has been designed, built, and brought to the market complying with Qatari Governmental and Regulatory Requirements, Projects Specifications, Industry Codes and Standards, and Contractor Working Practices.

These Air Handling Units are engineered for heavy duty environment (marine/offshore corrosive environment) and suitable for hazardous area location.

Former Hoist editor Jenny Eagle joins LEEA Media Comms team

The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) is delighted to announce former Hoist editor Jenny Eagle is joining the LEEA Media Comms team.

In this role, Jenny will be helping to promote LEEA members’ news and more importantly its in-house event LiftEx in Liverpool (November 21-22, 2023) and The 2023 LEEA Awards.

“We are excited to welcome Jenny to the team, following a successful two years at the helm of Hoist magazine. With her experience we hope to further promote the association globally, raise awareness of our events and welcome new members,” said Ross Moloney, CEO, LEEA.

Established in 1944, LEEA is a global trade association for all those involved in the lifting industry. It also aims to promote lifting and height safety industries which have eliminated accidents, injuries and fatalities and educate, influence and enable others so that best practice is a priority.

The association represents its members at the highest level across a range of both public and private bodies, including government departments as well as nationally and internationally recognised professional and technical institutions.

“I’m really excited to be joining the team at LEEA. I admire and respect the association having followed and reported on their news and events over the past two years. They work tirelessly to promote the industry at large and organise in-house events raising awareness of all those involved in the lifting and hoist engineering sector. I am excited to be starting a new chapter in my career,” said Jenny.

Jenny is a British journalist with 22 years of experience working for international publications including The Daily Mail, The Sunday Telegraph, The Sun, The Mirror, and The Press Association. Career highlights include working with the European Union as a host and facilitator for the EU Citizens Dialogues for the UN Food Systems Summit in 2021 and writing the press brochure for the ‘Women Driving Innovation’ campaign for Tetra Pak.

She has lived and worked in Montpellier, France for 10 years, writing for several online publications covering the food and beverage industry for William Reed Business Media, and more recently as editor of Hoist, and Dockside Lift & Move magazine, owned by Progressive Media International (PMI). On February 1 2023, Jenny was recruited by PR company Bridger Howes.

A new international partnership brings sustainable moorings closer

Blue Parameters is proud to announce a partnership with Seaflex and English Braids to develop fully sustainable mooring systems. This collaboration between the three companies has been driven by a shared commitment to improving the marine environment and addressing Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) challenges. The project, which is set to be completed at the end of the month, will set a new standard for design and results in this field.
